Easy transfer November 16, 2008 Rayburn C. Bodden (Nederland, TX United States) The product works as advertised. I had to restart twice, but the third time, everything went well. A great way to transfer needed files, as well as browser pref's and favorites.
A one-way street November 2, 2008 David M Howard (Rome, NY United States) Only works when you want to copy files from an older PC to a Vista PC. It even asks you if you want to transfer from the newer PC but it doesn't work!
Hopeless... October 12, 2008 Cybernaut (Colorado, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First Off, the system is picky about which computer is running the system and which is not when you set it up. It will spend minutes sending you back and forth between a tutorial 'I have the cable, how do I use it?' without getting to a menu cue that takes you to the next stage of file selection. It is almost better if you do it off a fresh boot. Second, many downloaded files and programs off the Internet _do not_ transfer or even show up as transferrable. .pdf files. Free and Shareware games. Nothing with a copyright or transfer protection. Which is ludicrous on it's face (do it all over again) if not for the fact that many of my programs are so old that they are hard if not impossible to find anymore. This is particularly irritating for games where you have already paid a licensing fee. Third, the system has a nasty tendency to crash, for no apparent reason. Looking over tech forum sites it appears that not all USB ports are created equal and the current density or parity values can cause the connection to break. What is infuriating is that this can vary anywhere from 2-4% for the front USB ports to 10-20% for the rear ports (and I have tried every possible combination inbetween) before a little flashing USB plug with a red X comes up to let you know that here and no farther shall you go. Of course, if you have left the machine on overnight and the little green light on the 'Belkin' cable system is still blinking when you see that the graph is stopped at less than 20%, you are apt to be of a very unpleasant disposition, given you left it at 15. Utterly unfair and ridiculous given that 43 dollars for the cable plus whatever investment you have made in a brand new Vista machine have left you with no ability to move data, pictures, web pages or _legitimately download-owned software_ from machine to machine. It is almost a deliberate denial of useful user history in pursuit of excessively complex transfer systems and copyright protections: $$$$. Why pay for multigig and terabyte drives if you cannot transfer entire user **entities**, complete with standing licenses, between units?

Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows Vista I cannot say much as my usb slot in my old computer failed, but whenever it reposnded the cable worked well there are however other cables(much cheaper) from Belkin to aid in transferring files from old XP computer to new Vista or xp or other compatable OS Suman

The cable works fine - the software that comes with it (which is required) does not. It took me five calls to customer support before I could get to level 3, They fixed my problem in 15 minutes. But it took me a week to get to them! Once they set up my system properly, the cable worked perfectly and very quickly.
