Product Description This program teaches the beginner: * general information about the Persian culture * how to write the Persian alphabet * basic grammatical concepts of the Persian language * extensive dialogue and vocabulary The intermediate to advanced student will be challenged as well and will enjoy conversing in Persian in the "Dialogue" section of the program.
Amazon.com Product Description Designed by University of Washington Persian professor Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak, this program teaches Persian culture, how to write the Persian alphabet, basic grammatical concepts of the Persian language, and speaking and listening skills. The engaging features include the ability to take a virtual trip to an Iranian city and interact with its inhabitants. You can take a taxi ride, haggle with the merchants at the market, dine with friends, and check in at a hotel. Converse with up to three people at each locale; there are more 400 lines of professionally recorded dialogue. Vivid background sounds and hand-painted scenes make the city come alive. The Letter Recognition section of the program helps you identify letters within words. Persian letters can be tricky. They change shape depending on where they appear--at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of a word. This program makes clear where each letter is and what its function is in each word. Writing and spelling games build your vocabulary and test your pronunciation.

Great Product, and very economical September 23, 2008 J. Huey (USA) The Persian Tutor arrived . We have been so engrossed in the CD-ROM. I'd like to say we think it is BRILLIANT! Just what we needed! If SMiles Productions is intending to bring out more software like this please will you keep me informed as it is perfect for our needs in learning the Persian language. I read the reviews, I must say, this is a great place to start and the most economic! My whole family has been using it and having so much fun!
Fun and valuable learning August 10, 2008 hdmcg (Seattle) The design of the learning is brilliant! It also works on XP and Vista. The publisher gave me upgrades to work on my computer.
Good Place To Start - FUN! Great for kids and adults. August 10, 2008 Jill Krera Persian Tutor by Professor Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak is an interactive CD-ROM that is designed with both the beginner through advanced student in mind. Learn the Persian alphabet and beginning reading and writing principles. Practice speaking Persian through exciting and realistic street scenes. Persian Tutor delivers more instruction, more effectively than many other higher priced products on the market today. This is not a complete course, but its a good place to start, especially since so many get stuck on the alphabet. This CD will teach you the accurate pronunciation of the alphabet - at your own pace. Once you've learned pronunciation and reading, the dialogue section is a lot of fun! You'll like the graphics of the Iranian city: the market place, food, friends, hotel, even the taxi! It's a cultural experience.
Not worth the money. October 14, 2005 J. Khalaj (Stillwater , OK USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This should be a $5-10 piece of software. The "interact" scenarios provided are few and not all that helpful. Essentially all you can learn is directions or saying very simple pleasantries. I can say with confidence that anyone would be better off with an audio recording and/or book to learn farsi.
Avoid - doesn't run on Linux November 24, 2003 5 out of 15 found this review helpful
This might be the most wonderful piece of software in the world, but if it doesn't run on Linux, it's useless to many of us (including me) who have no access to Windows. Most Windows software (MS Office, Photoshop, etc) runs just fine on Linux, but for some reason, this one doesn't. I'm going to look for something else.
