 PC tools registry mechanic is a rip-off January 7, 2009

Not only does it do nothing to help your computer, it introduces errors into th OS. Then to top it off, PC tools has an automatic subscription renewal that they put on your charge every year & will not refund your money. Horrible experience all around.

I use this product at work and at home. It works just as advertised and is a "must have" utility if you run Vista with a wide variety of programs. However, I really dislike the approach that PC Tools takes regarding licensing and renewel and recommend that you read some of the negative reviews before you purchase. Note that there is little criticism of the software, it is the company's practice of shutting you down after a year or forcing you to go out and buy the software all over again that is cumbersome and anti-consumer.
Automatic Renewal Rip-off October 21, 2008

I paid $29.95 for a download of this product last year. Recently, I received an email that they were automatically charging my credit card $29.95 for an annual renewal. I do not remember authorizing an automatic renewal -- I never do that. Apparently there was a box I needed to uncheck in order to prevent that from happening. I immediately requested a cancellation of the renewal and refund of the $29.95 renewal.
They complied, but included the following statement in their email response: "You are required to immediately cease using the product and to destroy all copies of the product in your possession (electronic data must be permanently deleted)."
Apparently you only "rent" the software for a year. I could understand if they did not provide further support after the first year without a renewal, but they clearly indicate that you can no longer use their product. For this reason, I would not buy this otherwise pretty good product.

Before I purchased PC Tools Registry Mechanic, I had a lot of trouble with my Windows XP Home Edition freezing up, becoming very slow and at times, I just wanted to go to a different operating system.
Since I purchased, and installed PC Tools Registry Mechanic, I have had no problems of freezing up or being slow. My PC is running normally now and I recommend PC Tools Registry Mechanic to anyone having problems with Windows XP.

Never got a chance to try PC Registry. Rec'd an item with a used CD Key and was unable to activate it. Of course, Amazon provides excellent service on their items. Oh well...
